Jonas Hjalmarsson started to play folk music in his early youth, in the local “spelmanslag” (folk music group), in Älvdalen in the north of Dalarna province, Sweden, where he grew up. He is inspired by master fiddlers like Päkkos Gustaf, Gunnar Orre and Gössa Anders Andersson, fiddlers with a strong musical integrity and focused expression. Jonas has worked as teacher at all levels, from beginners to conservatory level for more than 20 years. As an artist he usually plays solo or in a duo, often accompanying dancing.
