“When playing together with the other participants in this Polish-Swedish project, I imagine we’re playing in a mythical, ephemeral 16th-century tavern built right in the middle of the frozen Baltic Sea.”

Janusz is fascinated by the old style of music-making and improvisation. A student of old village masters from Central Poland (most importantly, Jan Lewandowski and Piotr and Jan Gaca), he finds the old style of playing mazureks, obereks and kujawiaks a universal human language and a space of personal liberty.

The leader of the Janusz Prusinowski Kompania, he is a co-founder of the Warsaw Dance House association, and art director at the “Mazurkas of the World” festival.
